Where Does Your DNA Come From?

Midweek Thoughts from Don:
Where Does Your DNA Come From?
Everyone has DNA. It is the code that defines you. Are you a redhead? Thank your
DNA. Do you have brown eyes? That too comes from your DNA. Are you tall or short? This is influenced by one's DNA. It is because of DNA that elephants give birth to elephants. This tiny molecule is found inside every cell of every living thing. Dogs, cats, trees, ferns, fish, and birds— every living thing has DNA. No one can dispute the importance of their DNA, but a fundamental question is: Where does your DNA come from? The simplest answer is that you get your DNA from your mom and dad. But where did DNA come from originally?
This question is the basis of tremendous controversy. There are two primary avenues of explanation. Our school systems, our mass media, and those who claim to be politically correct endorse the concept of evolution. They say that life is the result of chance and is an accident,
therefore, our DNA is an accidental byproduct. If all life comes from "complicated pond scum" and this was the result of some sort of cosmic accident, then you and I have no real value or meaning— except what we might try to imagine it to be.
The second and oldest explanation is that we belong to a Creator. God made this universe and all life originated from God's design. According to the book of Genesis, all life was made special by God. All living things have their source in God. Therefore, our DNA is something that God made. It is interesting to note that more and more scientists are abandoning evolution and its erroneous claims. One of the primary motivators of science's abandonment of evolution is DNA research. As scientists find out how detailed living things are, they cannot envision "chance" as a legitimate and logical explanation for life. The more we learn about life and living things the more we are compelled to say that we have been made by a magnificent Creator.

In case you’d like to investigate this issue a little further, check out a book called “Heretic, One Scientist’s Journey from Darwin to Design.” This book was written by a world renowned bioengineer named Matti Leisola. This book is just one example of scientists rejecting evolution because the evidence points to a designer or creator. Now consider our original question - where does your DNA come from? - and realize that the answer has huge implications. If evolution is true, then we are cosmic accidents and life has no real meaning. If we are created by God, then we have value and God has a plan for each of us. Are you aware of God's plan for you? Keep looking up!
