God Picked You!

An incredibly important, yet oftentimes forgotten thought, is that God chooses us.  God didn’t have to make this creation, yet He did.  God has always lived in a perfect relationship.  Within the Godhead, there is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  While the Divine Trinity of being is a challenge for us to comprehend, it is a reality.  God the Father loves and fellowships with God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  God reveals that this divine relationship is perfect and lacks nothing.  Yet, God chose to create this universe and fill it with life.

Do not miss an important implication here: God breathed life into His creation.  Life is not some sort of cosmic accident.  Life did not spring into existence from a fortunate collection of chemicals and energy.  God intentionally breathed life into this world.  Life comes directly from God the Creator.  By the way, it is ironic that our skeptical world chooses to deny that life is special and is a gift from God.  Science cannot produce any evidence that the universe is full of life.  Rather, scientists grudgingly testify that the universe is devoid of life, with the exception of Earth.  So, a vast, barren, lifeless universe is made special by the life that God created and placed here on planet Earth.

Not only has God placed life on our world, God commanded life to bloom, spread and be abundant.  Everywhere we look, we see life.   We live in a world that teems with life.  That is God’s doing and God’s gift.  God has taken things a step further.  God placed in mankind the gift of existing in His image.  In other words, we are created to be able to think, reason, make choices, create and design.  God picked mankind for a special relationship. All of God’s handiwork and creation is amazing.  (How often are we in awe of the majesty of this world?)  Yet, the mountains cannot choose to offer up praise and worship to God.  This world is a demonstration of God’s greatness and power, but mankind has been picked to give God intentional praise, worship and adulation.  It is our honor to point to God’s "spectacularness" (yes, I know that is not a real word, but you know what I mean)!

In addition to being given the privilege of testifying regarding God's amazingness, He also invites us to walk in His presence.  We can bask in His glory!  With all of this in mind, let me ask a question:  Why did God pick you?  Why has He picked us?  The answer is simple - because He wanted to.  After all, you are His.  He made you. I must, however, burst the bubble of all this celebration to remind you that we have not responded well to all the blessings that God has given us.  In response to His calling, we have wandered astray.  After God instructed us about what is right and good, we have rebelled and sinned.  Despite God’s goodness and His perfect plans, we have responded with selfishness and evil actions.  Thankfully, our actions do not trump God’s plans.  Again, remember, God has chosen us.

God has continued to call out to a world that is bent on revolt.  God has tapped us on the shoulder and said, “I have a better way.”  God is our master and creator.  He made us for fellowship.  Just as the Godhead exists in a relationship of love, God desires to share that love with His creation.  Even after God’s most special creation, mankind, has fallen, God still reaches out in mercy and grace.  The second person of the Godhead, Jesus, came to redeem lost mankind.  Jesus has delivered us from sin and offered us another opportunity to be part of the Father’s family.

As I observe this lost and broken world, I see that people are desperately searching for meaning in life.  People are striving to find purpose, healing, and hope.  With this in mind let me remind you again that God picked you.  No matter how long you have waited or how much time you have wasted, you are His and He has a place for you.  Start looking up!
